Geraghty reveals cabinet jobs after Tories landslide

Worcester Editorial 25th May, 2021   0

CONSERVATIVE chiefs have built on their County Hall election success by reappointing Coun Simon Geraghty as leader.

Coun Geraghty became leader in January 2016 and has represented the Riverside Division in Worcester for the county council since 2005.

More than 20 new councillors attended their first council meeting at County Hall following the local elections on May 6 which saw the Tories smash all recent records to win 45 of the 52 seats on offer.

Coun Adrian Hardman has been appointed deputy leader and retains his adult social care portfolio as will Coun Marcus Hart at education.

Outspoken councillor Alan Amos remains at highways in the new cabinet while Coun Tony Miller continues at environment.

Coun Andy Roberts will be the cabinet member for children and families, Coun Karen May will look after health and wellbeing and Coun Matt Dormer has been handed the communities brief.

Returning county councillor Marc Bayliss will handle the economy and skills brief while Coun Adam Kent is cabinet member for corporate services and communication.

“In selecting my new cabinet I was keen to have a team that can build on the positive progress we have made in the past five years since I first took on the role of leader,” Coun Geraghty said.

“I’d like to thank those councillors who were on the previous cabinet for all their hard work over the years. I believe this new team will help us move forward and enable us to continue building on the positive changes we have delivered across Worcestershire in recent years.

“I am looking forward to working with them to take this county forward, as we recover from the pandemic.

“This cabinet will work to deliver our ambitious agenda for the county, provide good quality services and deliver value for money.”
