THE EUROPEAN Wheelchair Basketball Championships came to thrilling conclusion at the University of Worcester Arena.

And Great Britain’s men capped a stunningly successful championship for the city by taking gold with a 87-66 win over Turkey in the final, claiming their third European title on the bounce.

The game started briskly with both sides trading baskets in the paint, but as the second quarter developed GB Men kept the lead to a maximum of seven points with more consistent shooting as Turkey found it difficult to break the pacey and aggressive GB defence, leaving the score 21-13 at the break.

In the second quarter Turkey began to chip away GB’s lead as they reduced the arrears to one, following free throws as both sides tired.

The quality of basketball increased in the third quarter as GB extended their lead, with three pointers, taking the lead out to 19 point from which the Turkish never recovered. As Turkey matched GB for baskets GB quality told once more as

Choudhry hit another massive three pointer. Turkey rallied briefly before GB Bywater added more points as finished top shooter in the match with 29 points and most valuable player of the match award

GB women made it to the third place play off following winning four of six games against Turkey, France, Italy and Spain.

At the end of the game GB women had a resounding win 69-39 which meant they booked their place at the Rio 2016 Paralympics
