Fund-raiser is water off a duck’s back...

WORCESTER residents are being invited to go ‘quackers’ for a duck race in aid of a top city charity.

Puddle Duck has partnered up with the Worcester Festival to hold the event on the River Severn at 2pm on Saturday, August 15 in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.

The race will start from Worcester Bridge, South Quay and end at Worcester Cathedral.

Participants can adopt a duck from the Puddle Duck store on the Quay Side from 11am and can watch it in the contest.

Small ducks cost £3, large cost £5 and fancy dress can be adopted for £25.

The first ducks to cross the finish line will receive High Street vouchers with all proceeds from the day going to the hospice.

Jayne Sargeant, St Richard’s Hospice community fund-raiser, said: “This is a great event to watch as hundreds of ducks are launched from the bridge into the river.

“It’s much more fun to adopt a duck and cheer it on and help raise funds for St Richard’s at the same time. We look forward to welcoming the crowds on the day.”

The charity help patients with life limiting and life threatening illnesses and their families. They support 2,600 people every year with their Day Hospice, 17-Bed In-patient-Unit and in their own homes.

They work 24 hours a day and as a registered charity and rely solely on donations to fund the service.
