Fun times as the 80s are revisited

Worcester Editorial 21st Dec, 2018   0

IT WAS back to the glam-rock style of the 1980s with the mullet and Mohawk hairstyles and neon-glitter eyes for members of WODYS when they took part in a workshop in preparation for their next production.

After instruction by WODYS make-up co-ordinator Judy Hooper and wardrobe assistant Debbie Field, the youngsters – aged eight to 18 – had a great time giving each other the look which will be needed when they take part in their next show – Back to the 80s at Worcester’s Swan Theatre from Tuesday, July 30, to Saturday, August 3 next year.

WODYS are very lucky in that every year several people offer their time and talents to teach the youngsters a variety of theatrical skills in a number of eagerly-attended workshops during the pre-Christmas months.

This one was designed to give the youngsters a taste of the make-up, hair-styles and clothing for Back to the 80s – a time when Rick Astley was King of Pop and when bubble skirts and blue eye shadow were cool.

Make-up co-ordinator Judy Hooper said: “We looked at hairstyles like the mullet and make-up trends such as the brightly coloured eye-shadow and bright pink cheeks of that era and then the youngsters were able to experiment and be creative with their ideas.

“They all seemed to enjoy it and the boys really entered into the spirit and had a good go.”
