A FREE one-hour yoga session, suitable for all, is coming to Worcester from the beginning of May until mid-September.
Park Yoga is a national charity delivering free outdoor community yoga in nature in towns and cities across England on Sunday mornings.
It aims to bring communities together to meet new people and practice yoga in an inclusive and relaxing environment.
You don’t need any previous yoga experience or knowledge to join in as the classes are beginners-level and suitable to people of all ages and abilities.
Councillor Satinder Bell, cabinet member with responsibility for Health and Wellbeing said: “We’re really pleased to be funding Park Yoga sessions in Worcester again.
“The sessions are open to everyone, and provide residents, regardless of how much yoga experience they have, with a great opportunity to enjoy nature whilst also improving both your physical and mental health.”
Councillor Katie Collier, vice chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee said: “It was brilliant to see the community come together for the Park Yoga sessions last year.
“The sessions provide people of all ages with a free opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing each Sunday morning throughout the summer in one of our public parks.”
Cathi Farrer-Mitchell, Director of Park Yoga added: “As a charity we want Park Yoga to be as accessible as possible, there’s no need to book and it’s free to attend.
“Last year 31 per cent of our participants had never done yoga before, so you won’t be alone if you’re new to yoga.
“You don’t need any specific equipment, just a yoga mat if you have one, but if not a blanket or towel works perfectly. Come along and give it a go.”
The scheme is being funded by Worcestershire County Council and Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Park Yoga is supported by Yogi Tea who will be giving out tea samples of some of their blends of herbal tea during the summer.
Park Yoga Worcester takes place in King George V Playing Fields. There’s parking available and a café onsite so you can enjoy a brew after the session.
While classes will still go ahead in light rain, should the weather be particularly wet, participants will be informed of a class cancellation with at least an hour’s notice via the Park Yoga Worcester City page on Facebook and the Park Yoga website.
The sessions will take place every Sunday at 9.30am.
