DRIVERS and staff from First Worcester were on hand with some top tips on staying safe on the buses in and around the city.
The bus operator held a Safety Day on Thursday at the Crowngate bus station to provide advice and discuss any concerns people may have about safety in general when travelling by bus around Worcestershire.
Some of the tips which were shared with people on the day, which if followed, can make bus journeys much safer, included the need to stay seated until the bus stops before getting off.
Passengers were reminded not to distract the driver unless in an emergency and to be aware of slippery surfaces in poor weather.
The importance of looking out for anything dropped on the floor to avoid trips and falls and of holding the hand rails when walking down the bus was also emphasised.
Passengers were also advised not to phone, text and walk at the same time, be aware of traffic and other pedestrians
Sarah East, Head of Operations at First Worcester said:” This event has been a great opportunity for our customers to find out more about what we do to keep them safe when they travel with us.
“Safety is paramount in everything we do in our business and we have very stringent processes in place to ensure our customers not only feel safe but are kept safe when they travel with us.
“There is however much more that people can do to help themselves stay safe when waiting at bus stops, or in the bus station and when getting on/off the bus.
“We have also given out lots of high visibility wristbands which will be helpful when the darker nights draw in and ponchos, which were needed earlier on this morning!
“Overall, it has been a great event and being able to provide important safety advice face to face with our customers is invaluable.”
