Firm walks tall to help hospice

Worcester Editorial 25th Jun, 2017   0

A UNIQUE project which will see more than 20 giant giraffe sculptures tower over Worcester residents throughout the summer of 2018 has unveiled its first sponsor.

Worcestershire-based Hewett Recruitment has pledged to sponsor one of the giraffes as part of Worcester Stands Tall, a project being run by leading UK public art producers Wild in Art for ten weeks next July.

Set to be the biggest public art event ever seen in Worcester, the scheme will see at least 25 individually designed, 2.5 metre sculptures pop up throughout the city’s streets, parks and open spaces to help raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

The sculptures will be funded by companies and individuals from around the county and be brought to life by regional and national artists to create a visually stunning trail of art.

At the end of the project the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for the Wildwood Drive hospice to continue its on-going care and support to those with life-limiting illnesses.

Worcester Stands Tall is being supported by Worcestershire Ambassadors and CrownGate Shopping Centre and will see a further 25 smaller baby giraffe sculptures on display, which will be designed by students across city schools.

Louise Hewett, managing director at Hewett Recruitment, said: “I feel it’s a fitting tribute to my mum and dad who passed away in 2015.

“They lived in Africa for many years and would have appreciated seeing these majestic creatures standing tall for a good cause in the city of Worcester.

“I’m thrilled to be able to support St Richard’s Hospice on behalf of my parents and raise funds in this unusual way.”

Tricia Cavell, fund-raising director for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce Hewett Recruitment as our first sponsor for Worcester Stands Tall.

“Louise has been a long-term supporter and patron of the hospice, so we’re delighted she’s involved with our exciting event.

“Worcester Stands Tall will be a fantastic adventure and is so important to St Richard’s Hospice. Along with creating a great, inspiring day out for all the family, we hope to raise a significant sum towards the care and support we give to thousands of people and their families each year.”
