FERNHILL Heath Baptist Church has received an Eco Church Gold Award from A Rocha UK for demonstrating its care for creation – only the second Baptist Church in England and Wales to have done so.
Locally it has increased awareness of green issues, increased the insulation in its building, signed up for a green fuel deal, joined the village litter-pick, hosted visiting speakers on a number of environmental subjects and visited the county recycling centres.
With the onset of Covid the church started services on You Tube which has increased its congregation.
Minister Rev Jeff Porter said: “It is wonderful how The Lord presents new opportunities in unexpected situations!”
Globally the church supports Fairtrade helping third world farmers and growers to obtain a better livelihood.
It has ‘twinned’ the church and manse toilets to provide sanitary facilities in Africa and has a long-standing link with Emmanuel Cathedral, Arua, Uganda, where it has also supported a number of projects.
