COMMEMORATIONS to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice saw the Faithful City fall silent on Remembrance Sunday.

After the traditional service at the Cathedral, the act of Remembrance took place at the war memorial in front of hundreds of city residents and dignitaries from across Worcester.

Dean of Worcester the Very Rev Dr Peter Atkinson led the service which saw the crowds fall silent at 11am following the Last Post.

The two minutes’ silence came to an end with the firing of a gun, followed by the playing of Reveille.

Wreaths were laid by civic dignitaries including the Mayor of Worcester Coun Allah Ditta before procession to the Guildhall where the Lord Lieutenant Lt Col Patrick Holcroft LVO OBE and Coun Ditta took the salute as the Remembrance parade marched past.

Other organisations involved in Worcester’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations included contingents from 214 Battery Royal Artillery; Royal British Legion; Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association; Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets; West Mercia Police; St John’s Ambulance; the Scouts and Guides.

Coun Ditta said: “This was a solemn, important and moving ceremony to remember the many people who have fallen to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. I was thrilled to see so many people on the streets to pay their respects.”
