IMAGES of Worcester will be beamed across the UK after ITV confirmed it would be broadcasting every minute of the Tour of Britain as the city hosts the final stage.

Cycling fans will be able to spot the Faithful City’s iconic landmarks and historic buildings on ITV 4 next month as the channel will broadcast the final stage of the race live.

On Sunday, September 10 thousands of residents are expected to line the city’s streets to watch the racing.

A total of 20 teams each with six riders will be taking part in the challenging cycling event, including all of the top five teams in the current UCI World Tour rankings – Quick-step Floors, Team Sky, BMC Racing, Movistar Team and Orica Scott.

Household names will also be lining up at the start line in the city including Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas.

Not only will Worcester be broadcast live in the UK, images of the city will also be broadcast around the world including across Europe, Africa and Central and South America.

Council chiefs hope the tv coverage of the city will boost Worcester’s tourism and economy.

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Steve Mackay, said: “The live coverage on ITV4 will turn the national spotlight on our beautiful, vibrant, healthy and active city.

“When viewers see the world’s top cyclists pedaling past Worcester’s many fantastic landmarks I’m sure it will be an inspiration to people across the UK to come and sample our delights for themselves.”
