Evan’s story is a clean winner

Worcester Editorial 16th Aug, 2018   0

A CREATIVE Worcester youngster has been honoured for his unique way of highlighting a messy issue which infuriates local residents.

Evan Boxall won BBC Radio 2’s 500-word competition with his story featuring the Poo Fairy of Battenhall who unlike the other fairies, wears skinny jeans and green welly boots and ditches a wand in favour of a poop scoop.

Although the other fairies at first reject her as ‘weird’, in the end they recognise the importance of her work to keep children clean and safe – and join forces with her to rid the Battenhall pavements of dog poo and turn it in to fairy dust.

The seven-year-old was praised by Mayor of Worcester, Coun Jabba Riaz who invited Evan and his family to tea in the Guildhall Parlour.

“Evan’s story is witty, clever and conveys a very powerful message to Worcester residents about the importance of clearing up after your dog.  Not doing so is an offence which carries a fine, so don’t rely on the fairies to sort it out for you!” Coun Riaz said.

City residents can report dog mess in Worcester via the www.poowatch.co.uk app.

The information is used by real-life Poo Fairies:  patrolling officers, local policing teams, civil enforcement officers and Team Poowatch volunteers.

They spray offending dog poo with red chalk spray and to shame the dog owner who leaves it behind.
