Drop-in event in Worcester to make sure you don’t get caught out by postal votes rule change

DROP-IN events are being held for people in Worcester who wish to vote by post, writes Erica Murphy-Hogg.

The events take place from 10am to 3pm this Monday and Tuesday (January 12 and 13) at The Guildhall and follow a new rule which stated applications to vote by post had to be made every three years.

Anyone who applied before the new law came into force will see their postal vote expire on January 31.

During the drop-ins, people will be given guidance with their postal vote applications to ensure they are completed correctly.

Sian Stroud, Worcester Returning Officer, said: “People are used to having a postal vote for life once they’ve applied, but that’s all changed and it’s vital that people re-apply by the deadline of January 31.

“We don’t want people to miss out on making their voice heard, so I want to encourage anyone who wants to carry on voting by post to act now.”

Anyone who has voted to apply by post and wants to continue to do so or anyone wanting to apply to vote by post can visit: www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote to quickly apply online.

Anyone who wants help but is unable to make the drop-ins can go to Worcester City Council’s Customer Services team based at The Guildhall, Monday to Friday.
