The event also promoted the opening of a new cafe aimed at helping individuals and families impacted by dementia.

The get-together tool place on ‘National Old Stuff Day’ with an array of 20th century historical items being provided by the Tudor House museum, which joined forces with Fernhill House staff to create an authentic experience.

Displays of souvenirs were featured, with items such as toys, Second World War gas masks, historical newspapers, and items of clothing made available for residents.

Certain centre pieces were presented by Cotswold Vintage Bus Hire and included a 1937 double decker bus, as well as an Austin A30 van to climb aboard and explore.

Entertainment was topped off with a range of 1930s era classics from The Poppy Sisters and participation from staff who dressed up as British personalities of the past, from Land Girls and Suffragettes, to Peaky Blinders and Florence Nightingale.

Andrew McIntyre, Fernhill House’s general manager, said he was proud of the staff members who put the event together, adding without their ‘creative thinking’ it would never have happened.

“I’m delighted with how the day went.

“To see our residents and their children and grandchildren come together to tell stories and to be reminded of their childhood was heart-warming.

“It was a great occasion.”

He also thanked the Cotswold Vintage Bus Hire, The Poppy Sisters and the Tudor House Museum staff who played a key role in providing the entertainment and display that sparked conversations between guests and allowed residents to recall their past with great joy.
