A SUCCESSFUL, though highly stressful, period of urgent medical treatment has resulted in a significant breakthrough for local artist Emily Johnson’s career.
Emily has subsequently taken this experience to offer art/craft sessions to other people struggling with low moods, anxiety, stress and depression.
She is now fully recovered and in March her artistic future became even brighter with the awarding of a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery Community fund.
Emily has set up her own business, Artists Clubhouse, and is using this grant to give local people the opportunity to find a positive outlet to channel their negative emotions and energy, as well as a means to offer everyone the chance to talk about and express their feelings and concerns.
The 12-month project is due to finish in February next year with some of the work being displayed in an exhibition at The Artery Studios.
“It was during my seemingly endless periods of time in NHS clinics that I began sketching to take my mind away from the bleaker events I was then having to face up to. The sketching literally took me out of myself, out of my worries and fears if only for a short period of time,” she said.
This project is also another win for Community Boost the organisation that helps voluntary and community organisations to access grant funding.
