A WORCESTER theatrical school has received £1,000 in funding from a leading housebuilder to help refurbish its stage venue.
Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society (WODYS) recently secured the funding from Persimmon Homes South Midlands as part of its ‘Community Champions’ scheme.
The theatre group, whose previous productions include ‘Westside Story’, ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘South Pacific’, will use the donation to install energy saving lighting in its Grade 2 listed St Mary’s Hall venue, on Northfield Street.
Peter Brown, chairman of WODYS said: “We have been raising funds to implement our energy saving project and thanks to Persimmon Homes, we can finally start the work.
“Our current suspended ceiling titles are not very thermal efficient, so we intend to replace them with better insulated tiles and also install more cost effective LED lighting.”
Carol Selway, head of sales at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to help fund the upkeep of this historical building and indeed support WODYS in the work they do with the local community.
“As we have recently launched our Hatton Grange development in Spetchley, we expect many of our customers will be able to enjoy WODYS future performances.”
WODYS next production, ‘HMS Pinafore’, will be performed at the Swan Theatre in April 2017.
