A WORCESTER birth centre has welcomed its 200th new arrival since opening its doors to expectant parents in April.
Droitwich parents Becky Keay and Simon Charlton welcomed baby Ella-May who tipped the scales at 7lb, 10oz when she was delivered at the midwife-led Meadow Birth Centre at 8.42am on Tuesday (August 18).
Little Ella-May is the 200th to be born at the Worcestershire Royal’s Hospital’s dedicated birth centre.
The comfortable ‘home-away-from-home’ is run by experienced midwives and the pair decided to have their baby there because of the calming environment.
Becky said the experience was so relaxed and peaceful and the centre enabling them to have their own room made the moment much more private.
“It was so much better being able to have a water birth this time too, the whole experience made me more relaxed and calm,” she said.
Simon added: “We were away from the ward but we were able to have the family here around us and having this room gave us time to bond with her in peace.”
Midwife Sam Campion, who was present as Becky gave birth to baby Ella-May, said: “I am new to the Meadow Birth Centre myself so I feel really lucky to have been the one on hand as the 200th baby was born here.”
Meadow Birth Centre Team Leader, Louise Turbutt added: “We are thrilled to have reached 200 babies in such a short space of time, and we’re so pleased that Becky and Simon chose to have Ella-May here.”
