PASSENGERS travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) are advised to expect disruption across the network due to damage from extreme heat.

Overhead wires and tracks were damaged as temperatures reached 40°C yesterday (Tuesday).

Due to the extent of the repairs required, passengers are urged to amend plans if they can and check their journeys before they travel.

Speed restrictions are in place on some routes as Network Rail are working to fix repairs on the tracks.

Tickets valid for today (Wednesday), can be used tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. Customers may also be entitled to a refund.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: “We are advising passengers to amend plans if possible and check their journeys in advance as the railway recovers from damage to overhead wires and tracks. Network Rail are working to fix repairs and we hope to have our services running normally as soon as possible.

“If you have a ticket for travel on Wednesday 20 July, you can use this on either Thursday July 21 or Friday July 22.”
