Deansway closed after teenage girl hit by bus

DEANSWAY in the heart of the city centre has been closed after a teenage girl was seriously injured after she was hit by a bus earlier this afternoon.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service were called at 2.33pm to the incident near the Heart of Worcestershire College after a report of pedestrian being hit by a bus.

One ambulance and paramedic and two Midland Air Ambulances, one with a doctor on board landed at the nearby Worcester Racecourse.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a pedestrian, a 14-year-old girl, who was unconscious after being involved in a road traffic collision with a bus.




“Crews transferred the girl by ambulance on blue lights to meet up with the awaiting air ambulance teams at the racecourse.

“The girl received further advanced trauma care from the doctor and critical care paramedics who stabilised her condition before she was airlifted to Bristol Children’s Hospital for further emergency treatment.”


West Mercia Police have confirmed the road is completely closed and motorists are advised to find alternative routes.

Chief Insp Melanie Crowther said: “At around 2.35pm West Mercia Police received a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Deansway, Worcester.

“The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital. The road remains closed at this time, and a diversion has been put in place.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 425 of 20 August or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
