FOUR nimble pupils will have to be on their toes after being chosen to represent England in the Dance World Cup in Romania this summer.

Bishop Perowne C of E College head girl Imogen Fraser-Clark, 16, sisters Olivia Fraser-Clark, 14, and Alice, 11, and Poppy Lewis, 12, all dance at the city’s Harlequin Stage School which has been chosen to represent the country in the world finals in Bucharest from June 28 to July 4.

The dance school has qualified a total of 52 dances for the competition in categories from modern to ballet with 81 dancers from Harlequin going along.

Alice, who has been dancing for nine years, said: “It is really amazing, we have all been celebrating and we are all working hard and trying to raise £30,000 to take us all there.

“We’ve been doing everything from baby-sitting to packing groceries at a supermarket.”

All of the girls will be taking part in Harlequin’s modern and ballet group dances.

Olivia, who has been dancing since the age of two, said: “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. There will be dance schools from all over the world. Amazing.”

Paula Dymock, principal of Harlequin Stage School, said she was delighted for the girls. “I am so very proud of them all and to be chosen to represent your country really is the highest honour of all,” she added.

“We will all be working our hardest to go and compete with the best in the world.”
