Cue some reel talent at exhibition of aspiring filmmakers

Worcester Editorial 16th Sep, 2017   0

A NATIONAL touring exhibition showcasing the work of aspiring filmmakers is on display at a Worcester library.

Playback, an interactive exhibition supported by Channel 4 Random Acts and Arts Council England, will be on display at The Hive until Thursday, September 21, offering more than 200 short films made by filmmakers aged 16 to 24 from across England.

Visitors can choose from a number of ground-breaking films, which have been produced to highlight bold expressions of creativity, by using the interactive displays to select work by category or location.

Worcestershire filmmakers include University of Worcester graduate Elle Smart, whose autobiographical film ‘Impact’ explores post traumatic stress disorder.

As well as an array of films on show, The Hive will also be hosting a free workshop for young people with an interest in filmmaking.

Rural Media’s ‘Filmmaking: Where do I start?’ workshop will take place on Wednesday, September 20 from 4pm to 7pm, where those aged 16 to 24 are invited to explore short film ideas, critique inspiring shorts and offer tips about what makes a good story.

Laura Worsfold, business development manager at The Hive, said: “We’re delighted to host such a vibrant and exciting showcase of talent. The exhibition will hopefully inspire and motivate more young artists to develop their skills and express their creativity.

“The Hive aims to educate, inspire and develop projects that encourage expression and debate. Playback does exactly that and we hope to continue to develop partnerships with national organisations like the Institute of Contemporary Arts in the future.”

Corinne Orton, Playback tour manager, said: “Young people are often criticised for spending too much time on their phones or screens, but Playback allows them to communicate and express their ideas and creativity through the medium of film.”

Places on the workshop are limited and are offered on a first come first served basis.
