Croome launches new exhibition made by its new artist-in-residence

A NATIONAL Trust site near Worcester has launched an exhibition of more than 40 paintings by its new artist-in-residence.

Croome has teamed up with local artist, Antony Bridge, to launch an exhibition capturing the landscape of the parkland, which will see him painting most mornings in various locations around the estate.

Visitors can purchase Mr Bridge’s artwork, which will be on display until the end of the year, via a bidding system, with 20 per cent of sales going to restoration projects at Croome.

“I’ve been painting the Malvern Hills for more than 20 years. It has that pure English feel which attracts me with great passion,” said Mr Bridge.

“After visiting Croome for the first time, it had that very same feeling I get from being on the top of the Malverns. We live in England but don’t often emerge ourselves in the pure English landscape, and Croome gives this to us in abundance.

“I hope in my work I’ll give an energy of the location and that beautiful link between the hills and the estate which landscape designer

‘Capability’ Brown truly wanted,” he added.

Amy Forster-Smith, Croome’s visitor experience manager, said: “We’ve been looking forward to the launch of this exhibition for the most part of this year.

“When Antony approached us to paint Croome we jumped at the chance to work with him. He’s an incredibly gifted artist and it’s been exciting to work so closely with him to develop this first exhibition.

“Although we partner with many artists and designers to create innovative installations, this is the first time we have worked with an artist to create a range of artwork on Croome over the next four years.”

Croome’s park and lakeside are open from 10am to 5.30pm and Croome Court is open from 11am to 4.30pm every day.
