WORCESTER Operatic and Drama Society (WODS) has appointed a special creative team for its 177th musical production of Children of Eden at The Swan Theatre.

The group of skilled artists have been hard at work making a selection of animal masks and costumes to feature in the biblical performance, which tells the stories found in Genesis, from creation through to Noah and the great flood.

With music and lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz, the company of 36 on-stage singers and dancers together with 12 off-stage singers will perform as animals using large and small puppets and a varied selection of characters, including God himself.

Bruce Wyatt, WODS Secretary, said: “The show is great family entertainment with some fabulous dancing and singing by a very talented cast. The music is fantastic, written by Stephen Schwartz who wrote ‘Godspell’ and ‘Wicked’ with some very moving numbers.

“We have a live band and some of the cast have some great animal costumes including elephants and giraffes.”

Recently nominated by the West Midlands branch of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association to win the 2015 Best Musical Award for its production of Sunset Boulevard, Mr Wyatt said the society’s latest production aims to provide something special that is rarely done in the amateur world of musical stage.

Children of Eden will be at The Swan Theatre from Tuesday, April 19 to Saturday, April 23.

Tickets are available at the Worcester Live box office on 01905 611427.
