THE COUNTDOWN is on to the closing date for nomiations for this year’s Best of Worcester Awards with city residents being reminded they have just over a week to put an unsung hero forward for an honour.
Organisers of the Mayor’s Best of Worcester Awards have reminded residents they have until Thursday (February 20) to nominate someone to be honoured in a ceremony at the Guildhall on April 2.
Keith Slater of Community Boost, the organisation managing the event, said the ever-popular event was a lovely way to say a big thank you either to someone or to a small group of people who have made such a difference to the lives of others in their community.
“It could be someone who has for example done so much for elderly people; has run a junior football league for years; has helped keep areas litter free; has helped people suffering with a serious illness or is a long standing volunteer in a charity shop,” he said.
“Or it may be a young person under the age of 18 who has done something extraordinary such as volunteering within their community, raising awareness of a local issue, fund-raising or perhaps a young entrepreneur.”
Schools have been invited to nominate someone from their local community who has made such a significant contribution to the development of young lives in their school, this could be for example a school governor, reading buddy, mentor, traffic crossing volunteer, sports coach, long standing member of staff, especially support staff.
“The important point is that you feel they should be given a big ‘thank you’ for their work,” Mr Slater added.
