Counting down to Countdown in Worcester

A FORMER Worcester University student turned Countdown champion is inviting people to take part in a day of word and number games inspired by the show.

The event is being hosted by Tom Stevenson, who broke two records on the hit Channel 4 programme by achieving a score of 154 points and becoming the first contestant to progress without losing a round.

Tom was approached by FOCAL, a non-profit organisation that runs unofficial tournaments based on the show across the country and asked to host a local event.

It will take place at The Hive in Worcester on November 1 and will be the first time a FOCAL event has been held in the city.

Tom said: “It’s aimed at anyone. There are lots of people who will love Countdown who I know would love to come and take part, and then there are people who’ll be more familiar with the 8 Out of 10 Cats version of the game who might like to give it a go.

“Everyone plays all of the rounds. Contestants will play in pairs from the same letters which will be projected onto a screen and there’ll be prizes available at the end which will all be linked to the theme of Worcester and Worcestershire.

“The event is perfect for anyone who has ever fancied having a go at playing the game, but without the pressure of the studio lights.”
