Councillor cash offered to boost vulnerable folk

A ST JOHNS councillor has dug deep to offer a vital cash boost to local causes supporting children and vulnerable adults during the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.

Coun Richard Udall has used £2,000 of his divisional fund to support local St John’s and Dines Green charities and community groups with £500 donations to Worcester Community Trust, Hope Church in Dines Green, West Worcester Live at Home and Action for Children at the Tudor Way Family Centre.

The cash is available to all elected county councillors to provide financial help, advice and support to local communities and the self-appointed ‘Voice of St Johns’ said he felt it was essential it was used to provide help to those most in need.

“At a time when many people are suffering due to the lockdown I believe it has become essential to provide help.

More food parcels will now be delivered; toys and play equipment will also be made available to children stuck at home; more people will gain help and support,” Coun Udall said.

“The groups who have benefited are all doing sterling work and are helping many people who otherwise would be getting no help at all. I believe it will go some way to help the residents I represent to make their lives less stressful at this difficult time”.

The Government has until May 7 before any lockdown measures must be lifted and Prime Minister Boris Johnson raised hopes the current restrictions could be eased when he said the Government’s exit strategy would be fleshed out ‘in the coming days’.

Coun Udall revealed his pride in the wider St John’s community for ‘pulling together to help friends, relatives and neighbours’.

“When this public health crisis is over we will have gained a new community spirit which will be long lasting and very beneficial to the entire community, we will make sure something positive will come out of this whole tragic business,” he added.
