AMBITIOUS proposals for a new bridge over the Southern Link Road to link a new housing development to St Peter’s and beyond have been revealed by highways chiefs.
Plans for the footbridge took a step forward last month when Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet agreed to initially fund the building of the bridge. The cost of the bridge will then be sourced from developers building houses as part of the South Worcester Urban Extension.
Ahead of the formal planning application being made early in 2019, county council chiefs are keen to share proposed plans for the new bridge with local residents and businesses.
Coun Ken Pollock, cabinet member for Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure said: “A foot and cycle bridge to link the proposed development to the south of the A4440 Southern Link Road and Worcester City is much needed.
“It’s great we are now able to move forward with the process and start to share our plans for the Broomhall Way footbridge. Once complete, it will enable full access between the new development area, St Peters and beyond.”
The council will be holding a public information session at St Peter’s Baptist Church on Friday (December 7) from 10am to 7pm. Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions about the proposed plans.

Should the scheme be approved, construction of the footbridge could begin in summer 2019 and completed in early 2020.
