Corbyn must go, says former Worcester Labour MP

WORCESTER’S former Labour MP has called on Jeremy Corbyn to resign ‘for the sake of those who need a Labour government.’

Michael Foster, who represented the city from 1997 until 2010, questioned whether Mr Corbyn could lead the party to win a future general election.

It has also emerged Labour’s Parliamentary candidate at the 2010 general election, Coun Joy Squires, has put her name to a letter with 57 other former candidates calling on Mr Corbyn to resign.

More than 80 per cent of Labour MPs voted against their own leader in a no confidence motion but Mr Corbyn has so far resisted those calls and told MPs to remember the overwhelming support he received from party members when he was elected leader last year.

Mr Foster said: “Jeremy has lost the confidence of his Shadow Cabinet and the Parliamentary Labour Party.

“With the very real possibility of a general election this year, much sooner than expected, could he lead Labour to victory? The answer his colleagues, those working with him, have given is a clear no.

“Therefore, for the sake of the Party but more importantly, for the sake of those who need a Labour Government, Jeremy needs to resign.”
