A STUDENT from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College won a top golfing competition to travel to Portugal and compete in the finals, without realising.

11-year-old Constance Brooks took part in the Girls County Championship at the Vale of Evesham Golf Club in August, completely unaware that the tournament was actually a national qualifying round for the Daily Telegraph BMW Junior Golf Championship 2015, in Quinta Do Lago in the Algarve.

Constance will now have the opportunity to play golf fully aware of the prestigious tournament she is competing in today (Wednesday) to Friday (October 16), where she hopes to showcase her skills in front of international media attention, including Sky Sports.

“I took part in the Girls County Championship where my first round score of 74 was a level par round and 13 shots under my handicap.

“I was unaware at the time that this was a qualifying round for the Junior Golf Championships. I was only informed a few days ago that I had come top over 18,500 entrants.

“I’ve been playing golf since I was seven, following my sister Alice who now plays off a handicap of four. I am now 11 and have been fortunate to play at numerous courses.”
