Climate protestors call for Worcester banks 'to do better'

Worcester Editorial 4th Apr, 2021   0

CLIMATE protestors took to the streets of Worcester to join thousands of others across the globe to campaign against some the world’s largest banks who they claim are leading investors in climate collapse.

Members of Extinction Rebellion protested outside Barclays Bank in the High Street and HSBC in Broad Street to raise awareness of the trillions of dollars still invested by banks in fossil fuels.

This was in support of the launch of a global Money Rebellion campaign which saw actions take place across continents worldwide.

“Since 2015, banks like HSBC and Barclays have poured 3.8 trillion dollars into fossil fuels. On top of this they

continue to fund billions towards deforestation and other ecocidal industries,” said Alan Spencer of Extinction Rebellion Worcester.

“We want to let the public know these banks are using their money to finance the destruction of our planet. We urge people to demand their bank does better,” he added.
