A GENEROUS Worcester choir has boosted a charity’s funding after holding two concerts in aid of people with brain injury.
Held in December last year, the Worcester Male Voice Choir raised a total of £2,035 in profits which was donated to Headway Worcestershire, a charity that supports people towards a better life after brain injury across the county.
Among the 500 people who attended the concerts to show their support, other guests included Holborne Brass Ensemble, organist Keith Hearnshaw and soprano Sophie Edkin.
Alan Simmonds, Chairman of the choir, who presented the cheque at the Day Opportunities Centre said: “One of our Choristers had first hand knowledge of the Headway services and recommended that we should support their excellent work. The training facilities I have viewed today clearly show the importance of the retraining of skills which we too often take for granted.”
Mel Akers, Chief Executive of Headway Worcestershire said: “This donation will make a real difference to people’s lives by allowing us to offer more and better services. It was also a real pleasure to attend the Choirs fabulous concert in Pershore.”
The evening also allowed the charity to fund-raise on the two evenings, adding up to another £260 towards Headway’s pot.
Julia Protesaru, Fundraising Manager for Headway said: “We were overwhelmed that the choir agreed to allow us to fundraise on the evening as well. It comes to show that people understand how important the work we do actually is and why we have to do it!
“We can only move forward with the community’s support and we are grateful to the Choir and Friends for their efforts volunteering for us in fundraising on the two evenings.”
