A FORMER local govermnent chief executive has been revealed as the new chairman of Worcestershire Children First.

Rob Morrison will lead the new company which will be responsible for delivering services to children and young people across the county.

The appointment was made by the Secretary of State for Education, through a collaborative process with Worcestershire County Council, and is funded by the Department for Education.

Mr Morrison has wide ranging senior leadership experience having worked in a number of local authorities, including nearly ten years as Chief Executive Officer of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.




Following his retirement in 2011, he re-located to Wolverhampton and was appointed Chair of Engaging Communities Staffordshire (ECS) in 2012 a community interest company whose major role was to provide Healthwatch services in Staffordshire initially, but following its success, it expanded and now provides Healthwatch for 9 local authorities across the country as well as advocacy services in 3 local authorities.

Regarding his appointment, he said: “This is an exciting opportunity to work with a new company that will provide a positive platform to sustain improvement and achieve its vision for Worcestershire to be a wonderful place for all children and young people to grow up.


“I am looking forward to working with all the staff within the company and of course colleagues from the County Council.”

Coun Andy Roberts, cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “This is a really important appointment for Worcestershire Children First and Rob’s knowledge and experience will provide the Company Board with the leadership required to continue our improvement journey and improve the outcomes for all children and young people in Worcestershire”.

The Board is expected to be fully operational by the end of July in advance of the Company formally launching on October 1.
