Chamber proud to stand tall in city giraffe trail

Worcester Editorial 5th Sep, 2017   0

A LEADING county business organisation has backed an exciting art project which is set to bring a trail of decorated giraffes to Worcester.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce is the latest sponsor to get on board with Worcester Stands Tall – an event which will see at least 25 giraffe sculptures tower over the city for 10 weeks next summer.

The Chamber, which works to support the business community, has sponsored a large giraffe sculpture which – along with its other long-necked friends – will be clothed in bespoke artwork designed by regional and national artists.

At the end of the trail, the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for the free on-going care and support offered by St Richard’s Hospice for people affected by life-limiting illnesses.

Sharon Smith, Chief Executive at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, said:

“I am looking forward to seeing the transformation of Gerald, and the vibrancy and colour all 25 giraffes will bring to Worcester.

“It will no doubt attract visitors to the city and beyond, to visit the giraffes and take part in the interactive art trail – raising money for such a good cause.”

The giraffes will be joined by at least 25 baby giraffe sculptures – smaller, but crafted just as creatively, by students and teachers in local schools.

The baby giraffes will be displayed in the city for the 10 weeks during the trail.

Money raised by the trail will support St Richard’s free, ongoing care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses, their families and bereaved people across Worcestershire.

Tricia Cavell, fund-raising director at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re thrilled to have such a respected organisation as the Chamber on board with Worcester Stands Tall.

“The project is really gathering steam now, with more and more sponsors signing up to take part. It’s great to see so much enthusiasm from the county’s business community.

“Worcester Stands Tall is going to be a fantastic event, not only for Worcester, but for the county and region. We can’t wait for July 2018!”

Worcester Stands Tall is a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice.

Local businesess and groups still have time to show their support and sponsor a giraffe.
