CCTV released following arson attack at City takeaway

CCTV footage has been released as officers up their investigation following an arson attack at a Worcester takeaway.

The incident happened at Caspian Pizza in Sidbury at 4.20am on Friday (December 9), where two suspects are understood to have attempted to enter the building using a crow bar.

The glass in the door was smashed, before petrol was poured on the floor and ignited.

Both suspects made off on foot along London Road before getting into a dark coloured Audi and speeding off in the direction of the motorway.

Officers are keen for people who witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time to come forward.

They would also like to speak to the two men pictured, as they may have information which could help with the investigation.

DC Dave Foley from Worcester CID said: “This was a blatant targeted arson attack on Caspian Pizza in the early hours.

“Witnesses at the scene acted very courageously in trying to put out the fire.

“Thankfully after the petrol had burned off, the fire was extinguished by a person who was driving past in his van and flagged down by a member of the public to help.

“This could have been a very serious incident as there were people asleep above the takeaway. Fortunately the fire did not take hold and no-one was hurt.”

Anyone with information should call DC Dave Foley on 101, quoting incident number 065S of December 9.
