Cathedral to contribute to new UK Holocaust memorial and learning centre

Worcester Editorial 20th Feb, 2021   0

STONEMASONS and bellringers from Worcester Cathedral will take part in the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation’s Foundation Stones project this weekend, by contributing and painting stones that will form part of a national memorial in London.

Alongside young ringers from around the UK, Worcester Cathedral’s young bellringers will paint a Foundation Stone in an online workshop run by Big Ideas, in remembrance of the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust and all other victims of Nazi persecution. They can also choose to dedicate their stone to those murdered in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Stonemasons from Worcester Cathedral contributed the stones for the young bellringers to paint.

Building on the Jewish custom of placing a pebble on headstones when visiting a grave, Foundation Stones from across the UK will become part of the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre due to be built in London. Each stone represents a commitment to remember and learn from the past.
