Cathedral countdown to Earth Hour vigil

Worcester Editorial 27th Mar, 2021   0

AN ONLINE vigil will be held this evening (Saturday) as Worcester Cathedral marks Earth Hour.

From 8.30pm there will be a challenge from one of the pupils at the King’s School before a short time of prayer and reflection by candle light.

All are welcome to join with the vigil, which will be live-streamed on the Cathedral’s Facebook page. After the prayers, those watching are encouraged to switch off their devices and spend the rest of the hour in quiet contemplation.

Canon Stephen Edwards is one of those organising the vigil.

“Earth Hour is a chance for us all to think about our impact on the environment and changes we can make.”

Started by WWF and partners as a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment.

Held every year on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour engages millions of people in more than 180 countries and territories, switching off their lights to show support for our planet.
