THE Worcester-Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society has been given a £500 cash boost from Alvechurch Parish Council towards the upkeep of its community narrowboat ‘Cecilia’.

The grant will be handed to the charity by Coun Marc Worrall at a special ceremony at 2pm on Monday, September 4 on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, by bridge 60 on Station Road.

The society owns this 70-foot community narrowboat which works with local community groups and charities, with volunteers on hand to helm and crew the boat.

It has held many fundraising activities in recent years to pay for Cecilia’s upkeep.

Visit www.wbdcs.org.uk to find out more about trips on Cecilia or volunteer to be a member of the boat crew.
