A CAR ended up under the central reservation of the M5 motorway following a collision on the southbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6.

Emergency services were called to the scene this morning (Wednesday) at 5.55am.

The collision involved a car and a van, resulting in the car ending up under the central reservation.  The two drivers, a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s, are not thought to have life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

The female passenger in the first car was assessed by West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics and was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment on injuries not thought to be serious.

The man – also from the first car – was assessed for minor injuries, given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.

The motorway was blocked southbound causing a large build-up of traffic but all lanes were reopened shortly after 8.15am once the vehicles involved in the collision were safely removed from the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call 101 or visit the force’s website, quoting incident 056i of 1 December, 2021 or report it online via www.westmerciapolice.uk/tua/tell-us-about/
