Can you help make the 10k a success?

ORGANISERS of the Worcester City 10K have put out their final call for volunteers.

The 10K, Run-Bike-Run and Young Athletes Run, will take place on Sunday (September 20) and have been organised by Events for the North, a company run by Olympic Medal winner Steve Cram, in partnership with Worcester City Council.

They are in need of more helpers as many of the volunteers from last years events have decided to take part in the runs this year.

Volunteers must be over 16-years-old and can be marshals, drivers, car park attendants or water station workers. They also can get the opportunity to give out t-shirts and medals and look after the finishers as they cross the line.

Steve Cram said: “One of the key elements that can make a city based running event like this a big success is achieving a high level of community involvement.

“We certainly saw this in Worcester last year but many of those volunteers have decided to actually run in the events this time around, so we could do with a few more adult helpers.

“We have roles for pretty much anyone and no experience is required.”

Worcester resident Barry MacGabhann volunteered in last year’s first Worcester City 10K and is returning to help out again this year.

The 55-year-old said: “The experience was fantastic. Maybe because I was new to this, I was stunned and surprised at how many people who I’d never met in my life thanked me for my help. Tired though they may have been, everyone seemed to express their gratitude.

“I really recommend volunteering during the Worcester City Run events and I signed up again as soon as I could. No matter whether you’re positioned on the start or finish line or out elsewhere on the course, you will be part of a team that is helping many charities make a difference to people’s lives.”
