COUNTY campaigner Phil Haynes has criticised the Government for bringing in the new ‘Plan B’ legislation, claiming it is taking away people’s freedoms and warning it could get worse with even more restrictions.
Around 100 Conservative MPs voted against the new rules in the House of Commons on Tuesday, which include wearing masks in public places and vaccine passports to enter sporting events and large venues.
It was the biggest rebellion Prime Minister Boris Johnson had faced since being elected.
Mr Haynes warned vaccination passes should not have been brought in, adding they ‘were against people’s human rights’ and ‘caused segregation and division’.
He praised the MPs who voted against the Plan B measures which he also said would also cause severe harm to businesses and the economy and the issue of passports had led to large uprisings in other countries.
Pubs and restaurants around the country, which have had a torrid time during the pandemic, have reported cancellations of planned meals and events.
Mr Haynes said: “We have to stop vaccine passports, and say no to any other measures.
“We should not have to put up with last Christmas all over again.”
A YouGov poll earlier this week showed many people in England would be against tougher Covid restrictions.
Two thirds of adults in England (66 per cent) would back the re-introduction of social distancing in hospitality venues, compared to 69 per cent who supported such a measure at the start of December.
It also showed only 29 per cent would back a restriction like the first lockdown which meant people were not able to meet indoors with others from outside their household.
Two thirds are also against closing pubs and restaurants and the restrictions from the first lockdown whereby people could only leave their house for work, exercise or essential shopping.
