Cakes served up for good causes

WORCESTER’S Mayor has urged residents to take a break from the bustling city life to relax and enjoy some cake for a good cause.

Coun Roger Knight has teamed up with the Independent Fund-raisers of Worcester (IFW) to host a coffee morning at the Guildhall next Friday, November 13.

As well as tea, coffee and soft drinks, a wide range of cakes will be available such as carrot cake, Victoria sponge, vanilla cupcakes, coffee and walnut cakes, lemon drizzle and even apple pie with cream.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Sight Concern Worcestershire – a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with sight loss across the county.

IFW is a community group based in the city, hosting a series of events annually to raise funds for local charities with a view to offering something back into the community.

Neil Smith, from IFW said: “We’re really pleased to be able to support one of the Mayors chosen charities, Sight Concern Worcestershire, and would like to thank the Mayor for giving up his valuable time to help us promote this coffee morning.”

The group plans to hold a Santa collection at Asda in aid of children’s charities later in the year, and will also be participating in the Christmas Tree Festival held at Worcester Cathedral, organised by Daisychain Benevolent Fund Trust.

The coffee morning runs from 10am to 2pm.

Call the IFW on 01905 358400 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.
