Bumper turnout for Worcester Show despite the blazing hot weather

MORE than 15,000 people turned out to enjoy all the fun and festivities at this year’s hugely successful Worcester Show.

Despite the blazing temperatures, visitors young and old kept cool with ice creams, cold drinks and sun hats as they enjoyed everything the show had to offer – from live entertainment to a wealth of stalls and sideshows.

The day’s competitions showcased a wide variety of talent, including baked goods and jams to handcrafted garments and artwork, not to mention an outstanding selection of fruit, flowers and vegetables from local gardeners. There were more than 700 entries for the varied classes.

Prizes were presented by the Mayor of Worcester Coun Adrian Gregson and the Mayoress Rachel Hall.

Refreshment stalls offered everything from street food to pizza and an activity area included music, arts and crafts groups and representatives from Institute of Physics and the Institute of Engineering and Technology. For the first time, there was also a separate music area, giving local bands such as Spunge and Split Second the chance to perform on the same stage Tom Jones appeared on the night before.

Staff from the Tudor House and historical re-enactors dressed in costume for the event despite the heat; the Mela marquee was a riot of colour, carnival and festival fun, and the sports zone offered taster sessions of a wide variety of different sports.

This year’s Worcester Show was sponsored by Worcester BID, Chin Badger, Worcester Timber Products and The Marquee Company.

Ian Hilton-Turvey of the Friends of Worcester Show said: “It was a fantastic day and the feedback we have had proves that the ‘village show in a city’ still has a great vibe and is an excellent day out for all the family.

“Volunteers and the City Council team worked well together to make it a great experience for everyone.

“We’ve already started planning for 2023!”
