YOUNG bookworms at Christopher Whitehead Language College and Sixth Form were boosted with the award of £500 to buy new books for their growing library and learning resource centre.
The cash was donated by Coun Alan Amos who was invited to school for a presentation and to meet the school librarians who help at break and lunchtime to distribute and look after the books and support their peers with the school’s ‘reading buddy’ scheme.
A reading buddy is a student or friend who has volunteered to help and encourage someone to get better at reading, can encourage their partner to read for pleasure.
“I was delighted to be able to support the learning resource centre and was impressed with the students,” he said
“As a great lovers of books we shared a great deal in common and the students were already reserving books, from a number of well-known authors, hungry to read the new purchases.”
