LIBRARIES across Worcestershire will celebrate World Book Night with free activities and book gifting this Saturday.
Staff and volunteers from The Hive will be at Wyevale Garden Centre on Droitwich Road in Worcester from 11am to 3pm gifting books, reading stories and running children’s activities whilst encouraging garden centre customers to join the library.
In The Hive itself, starting from Saturday, April 23 to Saturday, April 30, adults can take part in a World Book Night quiz trail with the opportunity to win a £10 voucher from Wyevale Garden Centre.
Visitors can also join in with the “Long Live Shakespeare” celebration catching live performances or talking to The Human Sonnet and pick up a free book on the day.
Run by the Reading Agency, World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books to encourage and inspire reading particularly with people who don’t read regularly or own books.
The free World Book Night books being given away by the libraries could be one of 15 different book titles World Book Night are promoting this year.
Lynne Shave, Service Lead at Adult Readers, said: “Our World Book Night events are for everyone, but we are particularly keen to tempt people who don’t normally borrow books into our libraries and to inspire them to take up reading because there are so many positive benefits from doing so, and it’s enjoyable and it’s free!
“Attendance is free at all of our World Book Night events and several of libraries have got lots of free books to give away too. We will also be encouraging people to become library members if they aren’t already as this gives free access to thousands of fantastic books, e-books and magazines”.
Events will also take place in Droitwich, Stourport, Kidderminster and Hagley.
