YOUNGSTERS in St John’s are being invited to scrum down and meet a Worcester Olympian with the launch of new Didi Rugby classes.
Together with the Worcester Community Trust, Coun Richard Udall has revealed the new classes will be held at the Green Hub Centre in Dines Green from September 9.
Classes will be led by Team GB women’s star Alex Matthews and will be held on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10.30am and from 2pm to 3pm.
Youngsters aged from 18 months to four years old can attend each week until December 16 and stickers will be presented at the end of each session.
Those who earn six stickers will be presented with a medal while those who earn 12 will be entered into a prize draw for a match day experience at Worcester Warriors.
Coun Udall said: “I am very proud and pleased to bring Didi Rugby to St John’s, it will allow small children to play, enjoy learning and have fun.
“We are very lucky to have Alex Matthews leading these classes, she has only just returned from the Tokyo Olympic games, where she played in the Team GB Women’s Rugby Sevens.
“She is an international rugby player and a world cup winner, she is also local, playing for Worcester Warriors Women. She is an international rugby star and is working hard to support our local community, investing in fun activity for children”.
“It will also help new parents to meet up and have a cup of tea and coffee when their children are playing, it will bring people back together and will be fun for parents and their children.
“It’s been a hard 18 months of lockdown, we are hoping to bring the fun back.”
