Award will show community pride in St John's

A POPULAR county councillor is set to launch an award to celebrate the best community business in St John’s.

Coun Richard Udall is asking local residents to nominate businesses they think provide good customer service and have done something to support local people.

With nominations closing on July 1, all three St John’s City Councillors, Richard Udall, Matthew Lamb and Christine Cawthorne, alongside the Mayor of Worcester Coun Paul Denham, will jointly decide on the winner, presenting them with a trophy and certificate.

“I am asking for no more than a hundred words explaining why a business deserves the recognition,” said Coun Udall.

“It could be that they are a good community retailer, they provide good customer service or have done something to support local people.

“St John’s has a lot of local shops, cafes, takeaways, pubs and other traders, many are dependent on local people for their trade and do a lot of good work supporting and employing local residents.

“I want to provide a small gesture of gratitude to the local businesses for what they do for St John’s,” he added.

Coun Udall said he hoped to make the award an annual event and described it as ‘a small gesture of thanks from the elected councillors of the area to the local business owners.’

“We are proud of the Village in the City, its people and its businesses, this will enable us to simply say thank you”.

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Paul Denham, said: “St John’s businesses work hard for their local residents and it will be great to see the best ones recognised for their excellent customer service.”
