Astwood Road reopens after ‘unauthorised’ Severn Trent closure

Worcester Editorial 21st Apr, 2023 Updated: 21st Apr, 2023   0

A BUSY Worcester road is again open to traffic after county highways claimed it had been closed without permission.

Astwood Road towards Rainbow Hill was closed earlier this morning for Severn Trent to repair a fire hydrant.

The ‘unexpected’ closure had an immediate effect with bus bosses at First Worcester stating services would divert in both directions via Tolladine Road, Ambleside Drive before re-joining the normal route via Langdale Drive.

In response, Worcestershire County Council’s highways department said:

“Unauthorised road closure of Astwood Road, Worcester by Severn Trent to repair fire hydrant.

“Their permit application is refused and they have been instructed to reopen the road as soon as possible and discuss with us to reschedule works.”
