A TRIO of organisations based at the former home of Royal Worcester have joined the growing ranks of sponsors supporting an elephant-themed arts trail.
Royal Porcelain Works, The Museum of Royal Worcester and GoodRoots coffee shop, all neighbours at the historic Royal Porcelain Works site, have teamed up to sponsor a sculpture for Worcester’s Big Parade.
Set to arrive in the city this July, the arts trail will see a herd of beautifully decorated elephant sculptures parading through the city’s streets for eight weeks. A Wild in Art event, the parade is being brought to Worcester by St Richard’s Hospice.
Kathy Leather, general manager for Royal Porcelain Works, said: “Three years ago the giraffe trail was a resounding success and we loved our giraffe standing in pride of place in the Courtyard, right in front of our beautiful Henry Sandon Hall.
Sophie Heath, director of the Museum of Royal Worcester, said: “With the county having such a rich history in quality design and fine ceramics, we’re absolutely delighted to be supporting this arts event in the city this summer. We hope the parade will inspire local artists of the future.”
Adam Edney, brand manager GoodRoots added: “As a business which prides itself on delivering good food and a good vibe to good people, we can’t wait to be part of a really good event this summer!”
Organisations from across Worcestershire and beyond have flocked to sign-up and sponsor an elephant sculpture.
And artists, both local and national, have dreamt up and submitted around 200 designs to clothe each sculpture.
Designs will be whittled down to around 100 this month, with sponsors having the final say on which ones are brought to life.
At the end of the trail, each elephant will be auctioned to support the ongoing care provided by St Richard’s Hospice.
Alongside the large, elephants will be a mini herd of calves decorated by schools and community groups across the county. The ele-babies will be displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre and other shop windows across the city.
