Arrest after 67-year-old's handbag stolen from supermarket trolley in Worcester

A MAN has been arrested after a 67-year-old woman’s handbag was stolen while she was shopping in Aldi in Worcester city centre.

She was at the supermarket on Tybridge Street at around 6pm on Tuesday June 10 when her bag was stolen from her trolley.

The incident was quickly reported to police and shortly afterwards, a 44-year-old man was located and arrested on suspicion of theft, racially aggravated public order, possession of a knife/bladed article and assault with intent to resist arrest.

Sergeant Sam Mott said: “This arrest was thanks to the quickly reported information from the community and the swift actions from responding officers.

“We were also able to recover some of the stolen property and return to the owner.”

The man has been bailed pending further enquiries.
