Annett ready for new hospice role

Worcester Editorial 15th Aug, 2017   0

WORCESTER Warriors rugby star Niall Annett has been announced as the new Player Ambassador for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The hooker steps up to the role ahead of the new 2017/18 Premiership season after being nominated for the position by former Warriors flanker and charity ambassador, Sam Betty, who retired from rugby at the end of last season.

In his role as Player Ambassador, Niall will help to support the Bath Road charity in its work providing care for life-threatened and life-limited children and young people.

Niall said: “I’m really proud to be the new Player Ambassador for Acorns this season and would like to thank Sam for nominating me for this role.

“It’s an important position and I’ll do my best to raise awareness of the great work the charity does, both at the hospice and out in the community. We all know first-hand the amazing work Acorns does and we’re ready to help in any way we can.”

Amanda Smallman, senior manager of corporate and community fund-raising at Acorns, said: “We’re delighted Niall will be supporting us in the role as official Player Ambassador and look forward to welcoming him and his teammates to Acorns in the new season.

“We’ve already seen a great deal of enthusiasm and understanding of our work from Niall and we’d like to say a huge thank you for his support to date.”

As part of Acorns’ 30th anniversary next year, Warriors will be hosting a number of fund-raising activities throughout their forthcoming campaign, including the club’s annual charity matchday in the New Year.
