Andrii ‘overwhelmed’ by the gift of learning thanks to RGS iPad donation

A UKRAINIAN youngster is the latest to benefit from the tireless fund-raising efforts by support staff from RGS Worcester.

Andrii, a pupil at Hindlip CE First School has been handed an iPad with learning, language and translation apps in order to help boost his learning.

It’s the latest effort by dedicated staff members to provide technology and essential winter clothing items as well as raise funds for the war-torn country.

Earlier this year the RGS Community raised more than £10,000 in their Ukraine Appeal with three members of sraff: Steve Bradley, Keith Breese and Paul Green delivering funds to the Ukraine border.

Andrii and his family originally from Ukraine have recently settled with a host family in Worcester and Mrs Herbert, Andrii’s teacher reached out to the RGS community at a recent outreach event hosted by RGS Worcester.

In order to support Andrii’s learning and language an iPad with translation apps was donated to the pupil enabling him to communicate with his fellow pupils through a translation app. In addition to the iPad, with the cold weather approaching, the remaining funds were used to supply Andrii with winter clothing including a new coat, boots and trainers selected by his host family.

Mr Breese said, “Following our Ukraine Appeal earlier this year we were keen to continue to support the outreach work undertaken locally.

“Through the funds raised following the recent fund-raising evening we were delighted to present Andrii with his new iPad, seeing him use the technology to translate his speech was incredible.

“Both Andrii and his mother were overwhelmed by the generous gift. The iPad will support him at school in both his work and for translation purposes.”

In addition, the RGS Worcester family of schools hosted fortnightly ‘get-togethers’ for members of the Ukraine community living locally to connect and support one another and has also welcomed pupils from Ukraine into both RGS Worcester and RGS Dodderhill Schools across different year groups.
